Manufacturing consistent, defect-free MXene requires strict process control through three sequential stages: selective etching, intercalation, and mechanical delamination. Begin with high-quality Ti₃AlC₂ MAX phase powder (particle size <45 μm recommended) and gradually introduce it to hydrofluoric acid etchant (40% concentration) at a ratio of 1g powder to 20mL HF. Maintain the reaction at 35°C for 24 hours with continuous stirring at 300 rpm under fume hood conditions.
Following etching, perform repeated centrifugation washing cycles at 3500 rpm for 5 minutes each, discarding the acidic supernatant and resuspending in deionized water until the pH reaches 6-7. For intercalation, treat the multilayer MXene sediment with lithium chloride solution (1.6M concentration) and agitate vigorously for 6 hours at room temperature. The final delamination step employs probe sonication under ice bath conditions (300W power, 5-second on/off cycles) for 30 minutes, followed by centrifugation at 3500 rpm for 1 hour to collect the single-layer MXene supernatant.
Nanjing Mission New Materials Co.,Ltd provides comprehensive technical support for scaling this production workflow, including HF-free etching alternatives and optimized delamination parameters tailored to both MOF/MXene hybrid synthesis and LDH/MXene composite fabrication.
